چکیده

In this paper, a mathematical model for a general integrated lot-sizing and cutting stock (GILSCS) problem is proposed. This model considers multiple dimensions of integration and comprises several aspects found in practice, and as such enables us to classify the current literature in this field. The main classification of the literature is organized around two types of integration. In a planning horizon which consists of multiple periods, the inventory provides a link between the periods. This integration across time periods constitutes the first type of integration. The general problem also considers the production of different types of items at different levels: objects are fabricated or purchased and next cut into pieces which are then assembled into final products. The integration between these three production levels constitutes the second type of integration. The classification indicates that, even though many papers in the current literature analyse an integrated lotsizing and cutting stock problem, they vary widely with respect to the level of integration on the time and production level dimensions. Furthermore, our analysis indicates that the current models also consider varying assumptions with respect to the inventory, the production capacities and the setups. This highlights the value of a comprehensive model, as formulated in this paper. Finally, we give some possible extensions to the general integrated model and point out interesting areas for future research. The focus of the classification is on mathematical models and their applications. Consequently, solution methods and computational results are not discussed in this paper.

The combined cutting stock and lot-sizing problem in industrial processes

Despite its great applicability in several industries, the combined cutting stock and lot-sizing problem has not been sufficiently studied because of its great complexity. This paper analyses the trade-off that arises when we solve the cutting stock problem by taking into account the production planning for various periods. An optimal solution for the combined problem probably contains non-opti...

A New model for integrated lot sizing and scheduling in flexible job shop problem

In this paper an integrated lot-sizing and scheduling problem in a flexible job shop environment with machine-capacity-constraint is studied. The main objective is to minimize the total cost which includes the inventory costs, production costs and the costs of machine’s idle times. First, a new mixed integer programming model, with small bucket time approach, based onProportional Lot sizing and S...

Meta-heuristics for dynamic lot sizing: A review and comparison of solution approaches

Proofs from complexity theory as well as computational experiments indicate that most lot sizing problems are hard to solve. Because these problems are so difficult, various solution techniques have been proposed to solve them. In the past decade, meta-heuristics such as tabu search, genetic algorithms and simulated annealing, have become popular and efficient tools for solving hard combination...

A simple approach to the two-dimensional guillotine cutting stock problem

Cutting stock problems are within knapsack optimization problems and are considered as a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP)-hard problem. In this paper, two-dimensional cutting stock problems were presented in which items and stocks were rectangular and cuttings were guillotine. First, a new, practical, rapid, and heuristic method was proposed for such problems. Then, the ...
